Meet The Trainers

Professor Petra-Molthan Hill
Petra is Professor of Sustainable Management and Education for Sustainable Development at Nottingham Business School and Co-Chair of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) working group on climate change and environment. She won the Sustainability Professional Award in the Green Gown Awards 2016 and The Guardian University Award 2015 for Business Partnership (Greenhouse Gas Management Project) together with NetPositive Ltd. She has co-designed the Carbon Literacy Training for Business Schools and is running this training since 2018.

Dr Alex Mifsud
Alex Mifsud holds a Ph.D. in Education for Sustainable Development from London South Bank University (UK) She lectures on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in Malta and the UK and sits on the Sustainability Research Group within the London Regional Centre of Expertise on ESD. Alex has developed ESD courses and training programmes and applies her research interests in employee engagement and behavioural change to assisting organisations work towards their sustainable development goals.
Dr. Mifsud has co-designed the Online Carbon Literacy Training and offers the Carbon Literacy Training through the EAUC in the UK and across the EU region.

Dr Alex Hope
Alex is Head of Department for Leadership and Human Resource Management and Associate Professor of Business Ethics at Newcastle Business School, Northumbria University. He is Vice-Chair of the UK and Ireland Chapter of the United Nations Principles of Responsible Management Education (UN PRME) initiative and Co-Chair of the UN PRME Climate Change and Environment working group. He holds a PhD in Sustainable development, an MA in Academic Practice and BSc (Hons) in Environmental Management.

Dr Rachael Welton
Rachel is a Principal Lecturer in Tourism and International Business. She joined Nottingham Business School in 2003 and since then has taught on and been a module leader for a number of international, marketing and tourism modules offered within NBS. She successfully gain Senior Fellow HEA recognition in 2017. She is a University Verifier, representative in the NTU Collaborative Partners Committee and conducts external examiner work. Rachel is the Secretarial Chair of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) working group on climate change and environment

Dr Karen Cripps
Karen is a Senior Lecturer in Responsible Management and Leadership at Oxford Brookes University Business School, and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
Her research and teaching interests focus on the intersection of sustainability, employability and related skills development, with particular focus on green skills and climate coaching.
She holds the role of Secretary for PRME UK and Ireland Chapter Steering Committee, and within the 'Climate Change and Environment' Working Group regularly delivers climate literacy sessions as part of the PRME Global Students programme, and supports the facilitation of the global Climate Literacy training programme. She has also launched and leads the Working Group's climate literacy mentoring programme.

Dr Marianna Poberezhskaya
Dr Marianna Poberezhskaya is an Associate Professor of Politics and International Relations at Nottingham Trent University (UK).
Her research focuses on climate change communication, environmental policy, and the political dynamics of authoritarian regimes. She co-chairs the Working Group on Climate Obstruction in Authoritarian States and Non-Democracies within the Climate Social Science Network, and has contributed to global climate forums including COP26 and COP29.
Dr Poberezhskaya has developed and delivered numerous courses and workshops on environmental politics and communication, including those specifically dedicated to climate literacy. She also serves as the Global Climate Literacy Training Lead for the UN PRME Working Group on Climate Change and Environment

Dr Sigrun M. Wagner
Sigrun Wagner is a certified Carbon Literacy Trainer, a Professor at Royal Holloway, University of London and Author of Business and Environmental Sustainability.
In 2021, she introduced Carbon Literacy Training to her institution, contributed to its environmental sustainability strategy and helped Royal Holloway gain Bronze Status as Carbon Literate Educator in 2025.
Outside the university, she has delivered CLT in a number of contexts, including theatres, churches and NGOs. In 2023-24 she used a year-long sabbatical to gain practical experience in sustainability to complement her academic expertise, and in 2025 developed a climate communications toolkit which she is happy to share. She is a regular facilitator on the PRME working group’s climate literacy and action training

Daminabo is a Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). His research explores renewable energy technologies, gender-just energy transitions, and the integration of sustainability into entrepreneurship and education. He is particularly interested in advancing climate literacy and supporting inclusive pathways for sustainable development.
Outside academia, He worked in the oil and gas sector, where he conducted various BS&W (basic sediment and water) analyses. His work aimed to lower BS&W concentrations in order to reduce the environmental footprint of oil and gas operations by cutting the energy required for transportation and refining, while also minimising waste streams. This experience highlighted the importance of efficiency, waste reduction, and responsible resource management in aligning industry practices with wider environmental and social goals. It was through this work that he developed a strong passion for sustainability, energy transitions, and the study of household and organisational behaviour towards energy efficiency—interests that ultimately led him to pursue doctoral research.
Dr Caroline Aggestam Pontoppidan
Caroline holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Copenhagen Business School. She is Academic Director of PRME at the School as well as an Associate Professor at the Department of Accounting & Auditing.
Her research focuses on sustainability reporting and takes an interest in carbon accounting and other measures for sustainability reporting.
Her research pertaining RME takes an interest in questions regarding the governance, institutionalisation, and contextualisation of RME. Caroline is developing carbon accounting teaching material as part of the Carbon Literacy Training.

Dr Ani Raiden
Ani is an Associate Professor in Responsible Management at Nottingham Business School.
She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), and Past Chair of the Association of Researchers in Construction Management (ARCOM). Principles of sustainability are integral to Ani’s research on social value and quality of working life.
She is the lead author of Social Value in Construction and Social Value in Practice, and co-editor of Routledge Social Value in the Built Environment book series. Ani is a co-ordinator for the CIB task group TG127 on Social Value in Built Environment..
Muhammad is a Senior Lecturer in Sustainability at Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University, UK. He is also the Sustainability Coordinator of the Business School, aiming to help embed sustainability in teaching, research, operational and partnership activities.
By background, he is a Civil Engineer having B.E. in Civil Engineering and MSc. in Construction Management.
He holds PhD in Sustainability and Carbon Management. His interest is in sustainability, energy & carbon management, education for sustainable development and low carbon smart cities.
Xiaozheng is Head of Learning, Teaching and Student Experience at the University of South Wales (UK).
As a certified Carbon Literacy Facilitator, she co-delivers the global Carbon Literacy Training across disciplines and institutions, enabling staff and students to embed climate action and sustainability into their learning and practice. Her teaching and leadership focus on integrating climate literacy, sustainability principles, and inclusive approaches across a wide range of subject areas.
As Partnership Lead for the PRME Working Group on Climate Change and Environment, Xiaozheng builds global partnerships and mentors colleagues to integrate carbon literacy into curricula and strengthen sustainability education worldwide.
